The tabletop and benches are made of oiled larch timber beams while the bedding / feet are of poured concrete. The same concrete casing was used for both the feet of the table (fully filled mould) and the benches (half-filled mould). There are slots in the bedding to accommodate a stainless steel base plate which connects the wooden beams to the feet. The base plate ensures that there is a small gap between the beams.
Although the planed, smoothed timber beams are 80 x 100 mm, the table and benches do not appear in any way bulky because of the gap left between each beam.
The 5Meter Table was designed on behalf of the University of Fine Arts (Hochschule für Bildende Künste) for lectures given outside. It was naturally inaugurated with libations on a special occasion by Professor Lambert Rosenbusch.
